Melinda Matyas, 'I'm Going to Be a Pilot', Original Oil on Canvas, 2015 - Appraisal Value: $10K

The painting is a self-portrait, the portrait of the little 5 year old girl who later became the artist.

The monochrome clothing and the heavy boots represent the human condition, the condition which is preparing ones wings to fly.

The color tones in the painting are reduced mainly to blues and grays, and by doing that Melinda has created a certain atmosphere, as if the figure of the little girl would look at us from an old photo.

Melinda's work is closely related to her own childhood, not because she wanted to be a pilot, but because she wanted to break out of the place where she was living as a child. Spending her childhood in a communist country has marked her in many ways, and this is one of the paintings that shows that in a remarkable way.

Notes:

The painting is on stretcher bars so it is ready to hang. It is also varnished, in order to be protected for generations to come. The sides of the painting is clean white, there are no paint drops or marks visible. The sides' thickness is about 1" inch or just under.
